More than I Bargained For…

So, sometimes I feel like substitute teaching is just more than I bargained for.  Like, I knew it wouldn’t always be an easy job.  But, sometimes I face stuff that is just ridiculous.  I feel like they don’t pay subs enough to deal with some of this crap.  And some of it isn’t even from students.

I feel like a lot of teachers don’t realize how difficult subbing can be.  How their notes don’t always leave information for every situation that might arise, how sometimes their notes for the day and their sub folder notes may not always say the same thing.  How what they want to cram in for the day, may just not be doable.  But they still expect it.  And they can be really rude and mean to their subs.  If not to their face, then in stupid online review things.  I’ve dealt with some of these people.  It’s frustrating, especially when it was stressful enough to deal with their students.  And I find myself wondering if they’d ever subbed before…if they stopped to consider what it was like.

I’m going to stay away from one of the Central/Middle Schools I’ve subbed for because their office staff and the teaching faculty don’t communicate, and I’ve just dealt with a lot of rude and inconsiderate people, both students and teachers.  The teachers part is what is really frustrating.  You expect there to be kids who do that.  You don’t expect it from teachers.  At least I didn’t.

To be fair: I’ve also had great experiences with both teachers and students.  It’s just that some of the crappy things that happen, really overshadow that for me.
